My one week break is almost over and I'll be back at work tomorrow. I had a long to-do list. I am happy that I got the biggest tasks done, though I couldn't complete everything.
It's amazing how long things take when it comes to home projects. "Measure twice, cut once" is a very good proverb though when it's applied to me I need to measure more than twice.
The plantation shutters for the living room are ready now. It took an entire day to cut and adjust the shutters to fit the front window. I have to wait for another weekend to install them because the job needs more than one person.
I also completed one of my short term goals for this year. Finally the floors are done. I started tiling last March and it took one year to complete it. This week I grouted the living room and the hallway with a help of a friend. When I bought the house, only the kitchen, dining area and bathroom were tiled and everywhere else had old blue carpet. There were two thresholds I had to consider - between the living room and the dining area, and between the bathroom and the hallway. I didn't like the thresholds available at the store, and it was harder to find something that goes with two different tile colors. Then I decided to use different color rocks. Rocks had to be individually laid and then filled with grout. I really like how they look now.
I still have to add quarter rounds and paint the baseboards. It's a relief to have the flooring done though.
We had a couple of really cold days and I didn't do any gardening. Instead I spent time reading and watching several documentaries on Netflix. Today I made a cauliflower casserole. I have enough leftover for lunch tomorrow.
Time always flies so fast when I'm busy. I'm going to be busy again at work, and I'm looking forward to the weekend for more home projects.

Great solution for the thresholds! A year of tiling -wow. It must be so nice to get rid of the old carpet.

DeleteThe rocks look fantastic, Nil, and I think they tie the two tile colours together really nicely. I like reading about the ways you are renovating and working on your home yourself. That will be saving you money because getting a tradesman/woman in can be expensive! Meg:)
ReplyDeleteI intentionally picked the rocks to match the two tile colors. It takes so much time, but you are right, I'm saving a lot by not hiring trades people for the jobs I can do. :)

ReplyDeleteI had to have a threshold Nanette, because the existing tiles were a bit higher and there was a very slight height difference. So I couldn't put new tiles right next to old ones. Plus there are two different colors, so rock threshold solved two problems- height difference and mismatched colors. :)

The threshold is beautiful, Nil. I love that idea. I'll have to keep it in mind if I ever decide to do our threshold. We don't have one from the hallway into our bathroom and I like yours. Your sunflower is beautiful. I read a tip the other day, which was to cut a pool noodle in half longways and then cut a slit down the side of it and use it to stake sunflowers. You can even add to them later if you need to do that. I enjoyed reading your blog. I have you have a great weekend! :)
