Bird Watching & Other Happenings

I have two bird feeders in the back yard. One is intentionally placed very close to the kitchen window, so I can watch the birds closely.  I also have a bird bath. It's so entertaining to watch different types of birds. Some are loud and aggressive, and others are a bit shy and quiet. I have two bird books on the nearby bookshelf to help me identify birds easily.

Mourning doves are the most common, and blue jays, cardinals and mocking birds also come to the feeders frequently.

Two mourning doves and a blue jay.

Tufted titmouse.

Cardinal.

Loggerhead shrike.

It's hard to capture some of these birds because they don't know how to sit still and pose for photos 😊.

I was finally able to email the company that sends me unsolicited magazines. When I called People magazine, they told me that they could place a stop, but in order to cancel the subscription, I must contact the company (M2 Media Group) that placed the order. I was given a phone number, but no one answered my repeated calls. Finally I was able to find their website and contact them. I received the following reply.

In response to your note below, you are receiving People magazine as a result of making an online purchase with FragranceNet.com. Your credit card was not charged for this subscription. The magazine was included as a bonus offer with your purchase. By default, the subscription was sent to the billing address used during your purchase.
There are no hidden costs, further obligations or automatic renewals associated with your subscription. Your credit card information was not passed to us.
Your cancellation request will be forwarded to the publisher for processing. Please note, based on the timing of your request and the magazine publication schedule, you could still receive several more issues.

Then I contacted FragranceNet and asked not to share my information They replied saying basically the same thing. I told the that I would not buy anything from them but I don't think they will care enough to stop sharing customer information.

The weather has been rainy and cold. As a result, I didn't do much work outside. I have been busy grading tests, and falling asleep on the couch! That's how I was able to get 7 hours of sleep.😊

I think I'd better get back to grading now.

Take care all. Have a wonderful week.

  1. Bird watching is such a fun and relaxing activity! I love your bird feeder set up! I used to feed birds in my garden, but haven't done so lately because of all the garden cats! I don't want to lure birds into the yard to have them fall prey to the cats! Even so, there are some very brave birds who do still visit the garden and hop about, feeding on insects and grass seeds, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are being watched by several pairs of feline eyes!

I'm glad you contacted the unsolicited magazine company and cancelled your subscription!

    1. I had a problem with stray cats and birds stopped coming. Then I asked the lady who feeds them to move a bit away from my yard. Now I see more birds and squirrels again. :)

  2. Lovely to see the birds you have in your part of the world, beautiful. Love the colourful Cardinal.
Glad you got the magazine issue sorted, what a cheek isn't it, that's what companies do even if you opt out of third party emails or mail or phone calls it doesn't seem to stop them.

  3. I love watching all the birds that come in my yard too, but only put water out, not food. I've had a wonderful looking pair of large osprey sitting in the old tree at the back of my place for a couple of weeks now......thete must be good fishing from there. And I love cardinals, we have some bright and colourful tropical birds hete, but there's something about that solid red. Glad you're getting your 7 hours sleep, even if some of it's on the couch 😁.....that's a good comfy couch you bought.

  5. I love watching birds but I am not so keen on grading. Just finished grading a dissertation, phew. There are so many birds I have never seen in your garden! Maybe we could do a garden swap and spend an hour or so watching birds that are not normally seen in our own backyards :-) Have a good week.

  6. Watching the birds that come through our yard is one of my favorite activities. We don't put up feeders, but do plant lots of bird friendly plants. We also have a 2 fountains that serve as splashing pools for them, especially the finches. Because we live very close to a shallow lake we also get lots of egrets, eagles, hawks, falcons, and the occasional pelican.

    1. I think one of the reasons for many birds in my yard is that there's a lake nearby. Lots of food for them. :)

  7. I'm interested in the "why," of you having to work so hard, to get 7 hours of sleep.... If you want to share, of course.

    1. Heheee I tend to read until 1-2 am and then feel tired during the day. I think the ideal would be 8 hours, but at the moment I'm happy with 7 hrs of sleep. :)
