I've been living in small apartments for over a decade, and while dreaming for a little house with a big backyard, I started growing vegetables in pots.
At one location, I was lucky to have a small fenced in area, where I could grow papaya, okra, tomato, bell peppers and various herbs in pots. I used shelves to maximize the space. I even had mango plants sprouted from store bought fruit, just for fun.
Then I lived in a second floor apartment with a balcony. I had tomatoes and some potted herbs. The plants didn't thrive here, most probably because I was too busy to take care of them properly.
My current apartment is on the fourth floor, and with a smaller balcony. I started another balcony garden and planted a curry leaf tree, eggplant, tomato, okra and herbs such as rosemary and basil.

After searching for so long, finally I bought a house. And it has a big back yard ! I'm dreaming of so many possibilities. As soon as I renovate the house and move in, I will start preparing the backyard for vegetable beds.
