2020 Goals - Last 6 Months

It's time to write down my goals for July - December.  I'm not sure how things will turn out with COVID-19 pandemic, so I wanted to create goals that are easily achievable.

I increased exercise time from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
In the financial category, I decided to pay another $250 towards the mortgage principal. I'd like to do this monthly, but at the moment I think it's wiser to build a larger emergency fund. I increased my monthly pre-tax retirement contribution by $50, so my take home pay check will be slightly lower from September.
I really have to get the will done. Last December I found a lawyer, called her office and left a message. They called, but I didn't follow up. I have to see if they do online meetings.

There are no drastic changes in home and garden categories.
I hope to finish the bathroom sink project before classes start in August. I also want to replace 4 ft curtain rods with shorter ones. Whenever I wash curtains I have to struggle to put the long rods back. The problem is now I have to alter the curtains. I have 3 panels in each window, so if I want to use two curtain rods, I have to have 4 panels. It's not difficult, but I have been postponing it for months.

The main project in the garden is to prune the passion fruit vine. It's already out of control, covering a tall cherry laurel tree and a crepe myrtle tree.

So, these are my new goals for the last 6 months of 2020!

Personal:
1) Practice gratitude.
2) Exercise. (30 minutes/day, at least 5 days per week.)

Financial:
1) Pay extra $250 mortgage payment.
2) Finalize the will and the healthcare directive.

Home:
1) Update bathroom vanity.
2) Change curtain rods.
3) Organize the dining room.

Garden:
1) Add more edible perennials.
2) Prune Passionfruit vine and make a trellis.
3) Transplant potted neem and Norfolk pine.

  1. Excellent goals, Nil. All quite achievable, I think. Well done on upping the exercise time and increasing the savings. I hope you can get the Will sorted out, too. Hope the next 6 months will be good ones for us all.

    1. Thank you Bless.
Getting back to an exercise routine was the hardest. I'm still trying to make it a habit. :)

  2. They all sounds very achievable, positive and enhancing. Who know what the future will bring, given what's already happened this year. All the best.

  3. Nice list of goals! I wish you good luck with all of them. It sounds like pruning the passion fruit vine will need to be tackled soon.

    1. Thank you Priscilla.

Yes, I have to prune the vine as soon as this crop is over. It's getting out of hand already.

  4. That looks like a nice mixed bag of attainable goals. I think everyone is hopeful that the next six months will be an improvement on the past six.

I had 4 small Norfolk pines in pots. I put one in the ground, but it died. They do grow fast and get very tall. One of my neighbors has one, and there are several in our college campus as well. :)

  6. I am looking forward to seeing your progress on your goals. We will be taking care of setting up a trust and last wishes within the next few weeks. As I struggle through the pains and delays of my father's probate in these Covid times I am determined to make it all easier for our children when the time comes.

    1. I'm so sorry to hear about the delays with your father's probate, Anita.
You are smart to set up a trust.

I too want to make it easier for my family, as they all live thousands of miles away.

  7. Those are good goals, Nil, and look easily enough to accomplish. I agree with Thrift Deluxe and am hopeful that the next six months will be an improvement.

  8. These goals sound very achievable. We dithered for years over wills but when we adopted our two youngest boys, the family lawyer who dealt with the legal side of the adoption offered to set wills up for us, and we took the offer. It is one thing less to worry. I am very keen to reduce the mortgage as quickly as possible but our car is on its last legs so that may have to wait... I much prefer thinking about plans for the house and garden! Have you tried growing artichokes? Perennial and very hardy, ours come back year after year.

    1. Oh yes I did try growing artichoke becasue I love them. But it's too humid here. They grew about 6 inches and then died.
I'm learning that Florda weather is too harsh for many things. It's too humid and hot, especially from May to October.

You are wise to get the wills set up. I must stop proscatinating and get it done this year.

  10. Woohoo on the increased exercise and the extra toward debt! Having curtain rods that work better, I’m all for that. I hope you get the ones you want.

  11. Thanks Nil for sharing not only your personal goals but the progress of lack of it on certain ones. Most of us have goals we don’t list or get to despite having more time now with being at home more. I wish you the best on achieving yours or many of them at least.

  12. Good luck on achieving those items, especially those that you have been putting off. I need to set myself some new goals as well, and I have a few that have been put off time and time again as well. We were busy with little projects around here in month 1 and month 2, and then completely got lazy in month 3. I think the arrival of the July 1, and recognition that the year is half over can spur us on.

  13. I love how organized you are with your goals. You are wise to grow things that do well in your hot and humid climate. Gardening is much easier that way. I am so excited to finally be able to grow cherries and apples up in the mountains. Good luck with the curtains.
