It took exactly a week, but finally the AC is working again, with a new motor! What a week it was. On top of everything else, I had to unclog the kitchen sink. For several hours I was ready to sell the house and move into an apartment again. 😟
Everything is back to normal now. 😊 I kept the old AC blower motor. I want to open it up so I can use it in class demonstrations. I also kept the old capacitor.
It has been raining daily. On Friday I spent several hours in the backyard, weeding and pruning. I always feel better when I'm among plants.
The previous owner must have had a workshop in the backyard. I find all sorts of stuff when digging- pieces of wires, wire nuts, broken switches, washers, bolts etc. The other day I found this metal object. I have no clue what this is. Does anyone know? There are no markings.

Today is the final exam day of my summer classes. Tomorrow I plan to turn in official grades. I really have to start working on fall courses, but it had been a stressful week and I couldn't really concentrate. I downloaded 4 library books thinking it would distract me. It didn't really work.
I did finish one book - The Shooting at Chateau Rock - the latest Bruno novel. I didn't find the story interesting. The ending was a disappointment. However, I always like reading about Bruno's cooking. In this book, he made gazpacho. I looked up a recipe by Jacques Pepin and made a big batch of gazpacho. 😀. It was cool and refreshing, perfect in this weather.

Make Like the Pioneers explains how to make baskets, candles, soap, apple cider etc. I didn't find it very useful. I just started reading The Modern-Day Pioneer, and so far I like the book. 😊
Now I'm going to read all my favorite blogs and catch up. 😀

I love books about pioneer stuff! I have all the books assocaited with Laura Ingalls Wilder and a few other pioneers. I've never tried gazpacho but it sounds good. It's been raining here today (finally!), but it's so humid it's like wringing out your body lol. Glad your AC is fixed!! Blessings to you, Nil!!
ReplyDeleteI haven’t read Laura Ingalls Wilder books other than watching some episodes of Little House on the Prairie. I’ll see her books are available as ebooks in our library system.

Nil, that's the thing when you own your own place and something goes wrong. At least when renting you can hope that the landlord will fix up the problem but that often isn't the case unfortunately. I have no idea what that object you unearthed is. That powder puff is very pretty.

DeleteDoes the object have a hole in the lid? My first thought was a 'plumb bob' -a weight that was attached to a string, and used to find the true vertical when building or doing carpentry. Otherwise, could it be a fishing weight?
ReplyDeleteThere is a circle of tiny holes around a bigger hole on the top surface, and there are tiny holes on the bottom (smaller end).

oh yes i love gazpacho on a hot day. we had our gas hot water blow up (still not fixed) and a huge branch from our tree crash onto a neighbour's tin shed. what a week!

DeleteOh, tree branches can be dangerous. Last year I had to remove two branches of the oak tree in my backyard.
Yay for the AC working again! I am SO thankful for air conditioning. My first thought about that strange object was that it's a plumb bob, but it isn't very pointy, so . . . I dunno!

DeleteJuly in Florida with no AC sounds very unpleasant. I am glad to hear that it has been fixed and all is well. There is nothing more frustrating than a clogged drain. Hopefully all of your students passed the course!

DeleteJacques Pepin has videos on Facebook of his cooking and I really enjoy watching them and learn some new tricks every now and then. I have no idea what the metal thing is. DeleteDoes the object unscrew to become two parts? I thought it might be a vintage cable connector but now you've said there are holes around the top I'm not sure.

DeleteYour A/C going out must have really been a nightmare! I worry about my sister-in-law and her husband in the Florida heat -- they usually leave in spring, but they are stuck there. I don't know what will happen to them if their A/C goes out as they are in a high risk group for everything (he's 100 years old). So I wish you good luck for no more disasters. I'm a fan of Bruno books too, and I even liked the newest one pretty much, but my husband agreed with you that it's not up to his usual standard.

It’s very hot and humid here, Meg. As soon as I open the back door, I can feel the warm air. Backyard is relatively cooler due to trees, but still it’s stifling.

Powder Puffs are such lovely plants. I believe the last one I got to see was in a tropical country many years ago. I have no idea what tool that is. I would take to the mechanic, I imagine he knows what that is. Take care Nil!!

DeleteWhat a nice photo to start this post, Nil, and then to read that things have improved since the last one was even better. We used to make gazpacho when we lived in VA as it was a great way to use an excess of garden veggies and so refreshing as well. I especially liked that there was no stove-time needed. Jacques Pepin's cooking shows are a joy to watch on PBS and he makes recipes seem not so complicated. You deserve to give yourself a break after the week you just had and reading is a great way to relax. The course work will get done too.

ReplyDeleteThe good thing about fixing things is that hopefully you won't have any problems with them in the future. I love the photo of the powder puff! We used to have a tree when I was growing up that I think had those little pink fans. Hope you have a better week.
