Hello everyone,
I disappeared from the blogland for a long time. I was busy with teaching and committee work, but the real reason was simply my laziness. 😔 My work life was fine, but I feel that I was really unproductive at home in 2022. So I plan to be more organized and productive this year.
My family members in Sri Lanka are doing fine. The situation in the country is still the same, the cost of living is very high, but at least for now, my family is OK. I am planning to visit them in June.
I have been neglecting yardwork for months now. Some sweet potato vines grew profusely without my care, so I was able to harvest several pounds of potatoes last week. And lots of passion fruits.
See that big lemon? (I think it is a lemon 😊 ). I picked its twin last August while it was too green. So I waited until this one turned yellow, and it took 4 months to turn this color!
I made four terrariums a while ago. They looked nice for a month or so, and then everything started dying. I'm not sure if I watered too little or too much. This is how they looked before I killed them.
I started collecting little reading figurines. They are all from thrift stores. Aren't they cute? 😊
Because I was extremely unproductive last year, I decided to make weekly to-do lists again. And, I want to post at least one blog post per week.
So, here's my very short to-do list for this week:
1) Prune cranberry hibiscus.
2) Clean sweet potato patch in the backyard.
3) Re-do at least one terrarium.
4) Clean the fridge.

Good to hear you are alright, Nil. I started the year off with COVID so haven’t even done any new year planning yet and January is half gone already. Glad your family is doing okay too. Chel

ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see you posting again. Glad to hear that the family in SL are doing OK. You had a nice harvest from your garden! I liked your terrariums and I'm sorry that they died - it's hard to figure out just how much to water them, though. If you cover them and have some condensation, then, it's fine. If you see a lot of condensation, then, leave them open for a bit for some of the water to evaporate. If you don't have any condensation, then, give them a little water.

Welcome back, Nil, as I confess to nearly having given up on finding a new post from you, but happy for this update. It is very easy to slip into laziness and as much as I do enjoy blogging, keeping up with new posts and comments can be hard at times. You do have other things going on too with classes and your home. Glad to read that your family is OK and I know you are looking forward to the visit. You have a good start on the reading figures collection too.

I think the last couple of years has not been normal and many people have struggled to keep up with their normal routine, I know we have found the last couple of years hard too. But 2023 feels like it might be a steadier year, well one can only hope. Your terrarium is very cute! xx

ReplyDeleteWelcome back! (I thought I commented but I guess I didn't yet!) Nice terrariums. Sorry they didn't last. I always wanted to make some. I would probably over-water. I have a book that says to air it out (remove lid) every 2-3 weeks for a couple of hours, especially in the spring/summer months. And water less in the winter. Your sweet potatoes and passion fruits are nice! andrea

ReplyDeleteYou are not lazy! Life gets busy and sometimes even when it is not busy, we need to rest. These past two years have not been easy for you emotionally, with worries about your family back home in Sri Lanka and of course Covid. I am glad to hear that your family is doing well, all things considering. Seeing your sweet potatoes reminded me of a sweet potato curry I once made and loved. Must look it up.
