A couple of months ago I sprouted two jackfruit seeds. Soon I have to find a good spot for at least one.

Recently I found a purple yam called Ube at an ethnic supermarket. It's is a very popular yam in Sri Lanka, and this is the first time I found it here. Just as an experiment I stuck an end piece of the yam in a small pot of soil, and it sprouted!

I plan to change it to a bigger pot, and build a trellis. I don't want the vine to grow too high and grab a tree. I already have a passionfruit vine that needs constant trimming.
Today I made air fried falafel, using Judee's recipe. I've tried this recipe once, and at that time I fried falafel in coconut oil. Air fried falafels are also very good, I brushed a bit of olive oil on them to make them crispy.

Because I teach fewer classes in summer, I have only 2 hours of office hours each week. Today I had 30 minutes of office time, and only one student showed up. Tomorrow they have their first test, and apparently only one had questions! I sent a test reminder to everyone, wrote a lab for the next week and decided it was enough work for the day.
Then I did two loads of laundry, and made elderberry cordial. I also made curry leaf juice. I'm thinking of making porridge by adding some rice and coconut milk to the juice.

Remember the bug I posted last time? A member of the regional Facebook gardening group identified it as the nymph stage of a leaf footed bug. They are closely to stink bugs, so Nanette, Diana and the unknown commenter (sorry I cannot see your profile) are right. 😊

Thank you for the heads up about the falafel air fryer success. That will be a much better way to cook them. I have found if I spritz whatever I want to "fry" with olive oil and put about a teaspoon of oil in the bottom of the air fryer basket, it works really well.

You have the knack for sprouting plants that's for sure! Enjoy that rain. We are dry, dry, dry here and our rainy season is over until the winter.

There's nothing quite like rain for plants. We've had a fairly good rainfall during Autumn here and the garden is looking lush now. Your falafel look delicious, Nil. MegXx

ReplyDeleteYour garden is obviously very happy after that rainfall, Nil. The pineapple looks wonderful and good luck with the yam which already seems to be doing well. It's nice that your coursework has lessened as well and now you will be able to have a bit more time for things you enjoy.
