Hurricane Irma passed this area on Sunday night, and fortunately I didn't have any damages to my house. I was ready to stay home and had food, water and everything ready. But Saturday as Irma's path changed and it seemed to be a direct hit on the area, I felt so scared to stay by myself. A colleague had already said I could stay with their family, so I called them Saturday evening and drove there before weather got too dangerous.
We were all ready to spend the night in a corridor away from windows. As it turned out, at the last moment Irma changed the path again and went east of us. Actually we didn't even hear the wind. Only the outer bands hit our area.

I came back home on Monday afternoon. I knew there was no power in the area I live, but I was worried about the huge Oak tree in the backyard. I was so careful when driving home because there were several intersections with malfunctioning traffic lights. Some areas looked like ghost towns, the road was empty. It was a strange feeling to see deserted roads.
It was such a relief to see there was no flooding from the lake, and the Oak tree standing all healthy and tall.

The next day I picked up the branches scattered in the yard and piled up near the road. I also took plants out of the covered patio and cleaned the yard. Because there was no power I went to bed early.

This morning (Wednesday) I still didn't have power. I set up my small gas stove and made a quick breakfast.
Power was restored around 1.20 pm. I went through the items in both the fridge and the freezer and removed thawed out meat and fish and other cooked items.
I don't have to go to work until Monday. I will cook the veggies left in the fridge and make a list to stock up the freezer again. Then I am going to read all the blog posts that I missed last several days.

I was hoping you were okay, Nil. I thought one of my friends lives in Clearwater but it was Crestview and they missed out on damage too. That would have been a very scary experience for you. Good to hear from you.
