Winter Break Has Begun :)

My winter break started this week. After a very busy semester, I'm so happy to  have a couple of relaxing weeks.
Normally I don't cook daily, but now that I don't have to go to work I I've been cooking a lot. One of my colleagues gave me a cabbage from his yard. I gave him a bunch of mustard greens. 😊

Mustard greens.

The week was cold and rainy, so I made a pot of vegetable soup, and broccoli casserole with homemade velouté sauce.

And lots of different salads...

The plantation shutters in the dining area are finally up. They still need  magnetic catches. This project took more time than I planned because I kept ordering wrong color hinges. 😣

I cut more quilt blocks. So far I have used 7 shirts. I still have no pattern in mind, and will think of one once I finish cutting all shirts.

I still didn't repot plants. I was too lazy to work outside because it was so wet and cold. Instead I spent time inside watching Netflix, reading and eating truffles.  I did mend a couple of clothes though I still have 4-5 items in the mending pile.

I really have to start doing yoga again. I've been eating too much chocolate.
I hope your week went well. Here's to another productive and relaxing week. (we can have both, can't we?)

Results of this week's to-do list:
1) Mend clothes.
2) Take measurements of the sofa.
3) Cut more quilt blocks.
4) fertilize potted plants.
6) Wrap gifts.
7) Do yoga.
8) Sleep 7 hrs.

Next week's to-do list:
1) Mend clothes.
2) Shop for sofa fabric.
3) Cut more quilt blocks.
4) fertilize potted plants.
6) Declutter the spare room.
7) Do yoga.
8) Sleep 7 hrs.

  3. Your food always looks so good Nil, I like the idea of being given a cabbage and then giving away some greens, if only more people did this sort of thing. Great recycling on the shirts.

    1. Thanks Marlene.
I love sharing extra greens with friends and colleagues. But I've realized that not everyone likes leafy vegetables. :)

  4. That cabbage and your mustard greens look very fresh and healthy! Your salad looks lovely, too. Well done on getting your shutters installed! That's a nice pile of quilt blocks you've cut, so far; very nice colors. I'm looking forward to seeing the quilt you make with them. I hope you have a relaxed, yet productive, break!

May be it's my imagination, but I think homegrown veggies taste better than store bought ones. :)

  5. I think the key to a productive yet relaxing week is mostly mental. Sometimes I am very good at it and sometimes I am my worst enemy.
Glad you are enjoying your break and getting to do some things you normally have little time for.

    1. I know what you mean, Anne. I too have very productive days and then there are days that I don't do anything. But we all need a break once in a while. :)

Yes, it was a big cabbage. He had 4 growing in his yard and gave me one. :)

  13. Your home-cooked food looks delicious, Nil. This weekend, I made a large pot of minestrone soup because I could include so many fresh and frozen veggies in it. I also made crusty bread to go with it. There's nothing wrong with watching Netflix and eating chocolate on a rainy day...sounds like a great afternoon to me. Hope you have a wonderful and relaxing semester break and Christmas holiday.
